Friends of Music, Inc. was organized in 2003 as a 501(c)(3). Both pops and classical concerts have been attended by more than 15,000 people. Our affordable concerts are for people of all ages, with a special rate of $5 for students.
Funds are donated to the public Middle and High School music programs in schools located in the northwest portion of Broward County of the state of Florida.
Friends of Music, Inc. since the beginning, has enabled nearly 1600 local students to learn from and to perform alongside professional musicians.
Some of our past performances include The Presidio Brass from San Diego, World Famous Pianist Belina Kostadinova, The Unites States Army Band, The Dallas Brass, Fireworks Music Ensemble of New York, the Boca Symphonia, world renowned pianist Kemal Geckic, internationally acclaimed cellist Jonah Kim accompanied by Steinway artist Tao Lin and the pianists The Duo Turgeons. For our 2016 – 2017 season, we had performances from the premier Choral Ensemble of the The Gay Men’s Chorus from Tropical Wave, The Merling Trio and charming and witty Steinway artist pianist Julian L. Gargiulo. For our 2017 – 2018 season, we featured the “Sounds of the Cinema” featuring the Presidio Brass from San Diego, Songs from Anthony Zoeller and Friends and ending with the United States Army Jazz Ambassadors. The 2018 – 2019 brought us the “Sounds of the Strings” presented by Con Brio String Quartet, Julian Gargiulo returned in an “Evening of Wit and Virtuosity” and, finally, “Youthful Sounds” presented by the Florida Singing Sons Boy Choir.
The 2020 – 2023 will brings us more concerts. Check our Events page for the details.
During at least one concert each year, we offer an opportunity for students to practice with and play “side by side” with professional musicians or master classes.
Friends of Music has donated more than $300,000 to local Public Middle and High School music programs in schools located in the northwest corner of Broward County in Florida. The organization is managed totally by dedicated volunteers.
In order to sponsor the concerts and provide much needed funds to the schools, we are hoping to host at least two fundraising events. In November, a “Prelude of the Holidays” gala (formerly the Taste of the Holidays”, is held at which we offer food from local restaurants, music from several of the local middle and high schools, as well as a silent auction of baskets, gift certificates and tickets. In May, the Volunteer Luncheon allows local organizations to honor their special volunteers. The work of groups and volunteers enhances the quality of life in our community. This luncheon has become an important and delightful outreach to and liaison with the community.
